San Antonio Poets Write To The City
|Showing San Antonio Some Love on Valentine’s Day Twenty of San Antonio’s favorite poets wrote a love poem to the city. And the Department for Culture and Creative Development posted the poems on their wall. The poetry, in different fonts and sizes, opened to a grand reception Feb. 4 and will be on view at 115 Plaza de Armas behind City Hall until March 25. The love poems will be displayed Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Culture Commons. It is a visual and poetic tribute featuring the works of local artists and writers. Admission is free. There are free chapbooks still available as well. On Feb. 19 at noon, the City will host a lunchtime discussion with Rigoberto Luna and Carmen Tafolla about the “Love Poems to San Antonio” project at Culture Commons. Tafolla, the current Texas State Poet Laureate, will share insights into the process of writing love poetry and will read her own love poem to San Antonio. Luna, a local artist, will discuss his inspiration for the graphic design installation of the poems. Lunch will be provided by Café O’liva for a $5 suggested donation.
