Local Artists Present At Splendor Art Show San Antonio

A composition of fluorescent tones construct the face of Jean-Michel Basquiat staring deep and profound from the canvas hanging on the chain-link fence used to establish aisles in the crowded auditorium.  Right next to it is a painting of Salvador Dali in the same bright tones, his signature pencil-tip mustache nearly popping out of the canvas. Pan farther right and there are similar canvases of Beyonce, Drake and Kim Kardashian. With his collection of paintings, local artist Kaldric Dow manages to capture the essence of RAW: natural born artist’s Splendor art show showcasing an amalgamation of different aspects of the pop culture spectrum.  Dow was just one of many local artists featured in tonight’s show at the Aztec Theatre.

The entire purpose of RAW is to provide local artists with the resources to share their art with the world. Splendor brought out dozens of artists showcasing their work through the avenues of visual, music, make up and fashion. It was only appropriate to hold the event at one of the oldest institutions for the arts in San Antonio. The historic Aztec Theatre provided the perfect venue to exhibit RAW artists, housing a plethora of different artistic styles and platforms under one roof while maintaining a natural, uncontrived aesthetic. This is the embodiment of RAW and what it does for our city’s budding art scene.
